The maintenance team and Wednesday volunteers continue the street weeding and spraying programme, have repaired kerbs, reconcreted the flood relief pipe near the Rambla and laid tons more gravel along the road from the bridge to the Welcome feature as well as repairing part of the road surface of Calle Begijar – phew! The new fencing opposite the old Masa office has also been repaired after being damaged by vandals and will surround another new bench feature. If you have any time to ‘adopt’ a small area near your home, by regularly watering the plants and occasionally weeding, we would be extremely grateful, so would the plants (!) and donations of your unwanted plants and broken pots are always appreciated!

The ‘Welcome to C’ Jubilee garden has been transformed this month by the gift of many mature trees and plants from two local ladies; so many people gave their time and muscle to plant them in the parched earth (and re-plant those that were uprooted due to vandalism and high winds). They are now being watered each day in the hope they survive: huge thanks to everyone involved. Special appreciation must also go to talented local artist, Coral, who has decorated our chalkboards with beautifully painted flowers – C Sector has so many kind people who give their time, donations of both money and plants, snacks and drinks for the workers…Their generosity of spirit makes ‘C’ such a great place to live and visit on holiday! If you would like to volunteer to help us in any way, and meet new friends, just get in touch via phone or email. We offer the bribe of breakfast on Wednesdays and the satisfaction of knowing you are keeping fit while making a huge difference to the place you have chose to live or spend holidays – Each time visitors return here, they notice how lovely the improvements are and always let us know as they pass!

Yes yesterday the town hall did sign the necessary paperwork to take over sector A, and they are now starting to meet to organize sector B,C and D. they did not make a big issue from this because they rather do it when the certificates of Habitation come through.

Also they are building a football pitch on Sector C opposite the hotel ( I think this is where it use to be), and there is an association that is paying for the nets that go round it.

There has been meetings with Aqualia, because as you know we cant change contracts, or do anything with sector b c or d at the moment as Masa and Aqualia have no longer got a contract.

Ref licenses, I have enquired if these have been stopped and the Mayor said no. He said to be very patient, that things are moving forward but very slowly.

So some answers then. It would appear that the breakdown between Masa & Aqualia has resulted in no bills being sent out and that the council are working on it. Watch this space.

Kelly is trying to arrange a meeting for us at the moment but it would appear that the Mayor doesn’t think there is enough progress yet to justify a meeting. I have told her that we do need a meeting to sort out once and for all a line of communication between the town hall and the residents association. The current situation where different councillors drip feed information, not all of which corresponds, just leads to dissatisfaction and adds to the rumour machine.

As I write, we’re looking forward to our AGM on 19^th April, where Chairman, Bernard, will be retiring but hopefully continuing as Treasurer: We’d like to offer him our heartfelt thanks for beginning and maintaining such a wonderful project and hope the new Chair carries forward that momentum with the same vigour. Green Fingers has become a group of like-minded friends, not just gardeners (and labourers!): we receive so many positive comments and supportive messages making all the hard work worthwhile. A new committee will also have been voted in but even if you missed the AGM we always welcome new committee members, and indeed new volunteers: We offer free breakfast to our Wednesday team to sweeten their hard labour, so come along and make new friends: even if you’re only here on your hols, you’ll be beautifying and benefitting your whole community!

The ‘Bienvenidos a C’ feature now has it’s new bench, already christened by tired shoppers! The final flower planter, which was stolen, will soon be replaced to complete this pretty garden and a similar feature is being created opposite Sensol estate agents, with a picket fence surrounding another seat half way up the hill, just in case the first is occupied! This bench has been kindly donated by someone who cannot volunteer because of medical reasons yet wanted to show his appreciation for Green Fingers hard work! If you would like to donate any plants, pots etc. we would be most grateful, thank you.

Yet more gravel has been laid to landscape and plant new kerbside areas which would appreciate a good watering during their early days, thanks to all who can spare a minute to take care of them, and who have offered our working parties refreshments! Every Euro of each member’s monthly payment is precious to us and used to enhance the whole area of ‘C’, though the general programme of maintenance, weeding and spraying may only reach your road every few weeks. If you are not a member and you see our teams out and about please contribute a little. I passed a lady yesterday, on her way to the dustbins and she pulled out a few weeds which had grown in the gravel verge; when I thanked her, she told me she does this every time she empties her rubbish. What a great idea, and it has already made a big difference to that area! – ‘Every little helps’, as they say!
