Green Fingers held a well-attended and productive AGM on 17th May:
Our Chairman, John was voted in for yet another year as were the members of the Committee, plus a new member, Jayne, who joins us as Poligono rep for C6. We are still short of a couple of reps so if anyone is interested in getting to know their fellow homeowners here, please get in touch. The Monday Maintenance Scheme keeps the streets of ‘C’ North cleaned & weed free so if you aren’t yet a member, please consider joining, it only costs 5 Euros per month to prevent your street returning to a wilderness as they used to be.
John gave his Chairman’s report outlining tasks undertaken during the last year, including: clearing huge amounts of deep floodwater and mud from the streets & at the bottom of the Dual Carriageway in the bad storms, repairing potholes, installing planters, raised beds & railway sleepers, laying 45 tons of gravel & membrane, planting and trimming hundreds of plants, shrubs & trees, extensive weeding and watering, moving the Leo’s Insect Hotel to more stable ground, helping The Brownies construct their garden and also helping out Upper C and B gardening groups. This year we also replaced the old van and invested in a generator, hedge trimmer and electric palm cutter. A total of Euros 13,034.18 was raised in the Bucket over the last year, over 34% up, and every cent of this was spent on plants, gravel, membrane, tools etc. for the above tasks. A huge thank-you to everyone for donations, large or small, we could not make our area so lovely without your continuing help.
Our Treasurer, Margaret, also gave her report: The Maintenance Scheme account (for Monday street cleaning) and General account (for tasks, planting and projects) are completely separate: Everything we spend is billed, accounted for and independently audited and our books are always available for inspection at any time.
The future is now consolidating projects and tackling the huge weed problem after the wettest Winter for many years. We will gradually be working our way around the whole sector to tackle these in the coming months, but do do this we need more volunteers! Please, if you can spare any time on a Wednesday morning, just turn up at the Welcome Wall – with the reward of a free breakfast!
We also depend upon fundraising so please save the dates and come to our social events; Summer BBQ on 25th June with Scott James, Games Evening on 22nd September and Xmas Party with Barrington on 24th November.
It’s been another great year for Green Fingers; Huge thanks for your continuing support and we look forward to another year of hard work!
Suzie, Information Officer.
